We want our competitors, customers & friends to be knowledgeable on the recent mold regulations. Access Mold remediators are all certified & licensed under Washington DC’s recent regulations. Please read this excerpt below from the DCRA official website to understand more:
All mold professionals must maintain a general liability insurance coverage of at least one million dollars, unless covered under an employer’s policy. Further information about the requirements pertaining to District of Columbia mold assessors and remediators can be found below.
A licensed mold assessor is permitted to record observations, take measurements, collect samples, plan and conduct surveys, prepare reports, and develop and evaluate mold remediation and management plans. If the licensee deems it necessary, all those working on the assessment must wear personal protective equipment (PPE). An N-95 respirator is considered the minimum acceptable PPE. The licensee is responsible for providing PPE, fit testing, and training to all supervisees. All sampling and laboratory analysis must be done according to industry best practices, and proper documentation and chain of custody procedures must be used.
The individual performing mold assessment must provide the client with a Mold Assessment Report. If mold remediation is necessary, the report must include a Mold Remediation Protocol. This protocol must contain:
A licensed mold remediator is permitted to prepare and carry out a mold remediation plan and interpret results of activities performed according to the plan. If the Mold Remediation Protocol specifies that PPE is necessary for remediation, all those working on the remediation must wear the specified PPE. An N-95 respirator is considered the minimum acceptable PPE. The licensee is responsible for providing appropriate PPE, fit testing, and training to all supervisees.
The mold remediator must provide a Mold Remediation Work Plan to the client prior to remediation. This plan must be specific to each project, and fulfill the requirements of the Mold Remediation Protocol. Work standards are as follows:

In a Nor’easter situation, the northeast winds come from a low-pressure system off the shore, then winds circulate near the coast. They can happen at any time of the year but are most violent September-April. You can prepare for a Nor’Easter by securing or bringing in all outdoor objects (furniture, toys, trash cans, flowers, etc). These items can be swept away, broken, or thrown through windows by gusty winds. You should clear clogged rain gutters to keep water flowing away from your house to avoid water leaking into your home & flooding.
A common misconception of high gusty storm winds is that you should tape your windows to prepare to avoid damage. Taping windows to prevent breaking glass in a storm is a waste of time usually, it does not actually make clean up easier. Taping windows can create larger shards of debris in your home or business.
Boats are common on the Eastern coast of the US. Boats should always be removed from the water in all storm conditions. In the event that flooding is a serious threat, prepare your lower level homes and businesses by elevating all items, checking your sump pump, remove electronics, move parked vehicles to a higher level. This will help the water remediation team help extract the water & moisture immediately instead of having to remove soft goods & personal items first. It can also save time which ill save the owner money.
In any type of storm be it a hurricane, tropical storm, afternoon thunder storm or winter snow storm, power outages are usually experienced. Storm related deaths can be caused by car accidents, hypothermia, carbon monoxide incidents, or even heart attack from stress.
Don’t forget to keep your pets safe during storms! Keep pets indoors when you can. Freezing temperatures affect your pets like they do for your children. Some animals with short fur coats will also need a coat or booties if salt is poured down to melt ice. Salt can cause serious irritation and their paws should always be wiped with a damp rag when they are back indoors. Some pets may need extra food & water as they burn more energy when it is cold.
After the storm has passed, immediately check for any damages that may have occurred during high winds or high water. First, call your insurance agent to report all damages & you can request that Access Mold & Fire Restoration complete all repairs. We work with all insurance companies and make the process easy for the owner.
